Leslye Headland’s debut Star Wars series, The Acolyte, is now more than halfway through its first season, and, while she has promised a definitive conclusion to the current storyline involving a group of Jedi, the Witches of Brendock, and twins born of and raised by the aforementioned witches under mysterious circumstances. While Headland is already looking ahead to the possibility of additional seasons being greenlit for the series and what she might introduce, she also wants to ensure that she gets to tell a full story this season.

Headland stated, "It feels like everyone's really expecting [their shows] to get a second season, and I don't feel that's a good idea. I threw everything into season 1, because who knows what's going to happen?"

She added that she would like to introduce “four or five major mysteries” if the gets renewed for a second season. She has not elaborated further about her ideas for a second season (or perhaps she cannot at this time). There are still three episodes left in this season to tie off the current storyline.

A second season of the series has not yet been greenlit, although the series was heavily streamed in the first few days following its premiere on D+. This past week saw one of the darkest episodes of the series to date, Night, finally revealing the identity of the mysterious masked villain who has been training Mae, as well as killing off multiple characters.  The series also appears to be shifting gears with two of the main (twin) characters, Mae and Osha Aniseya, unexpectedly switching places with each other at the end of the last episode, leaving Mae with the surviving Jedi and Osha with Mae’s sinister master.
