The Directors Guild of America is scheduled to begin contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers on May 10, as the current one expires on June 30. Specifics of the goals of these negotiations haven’t been released yet. In an exclusive between Deadline and the DGA chief Lesli Linka Glatter, she discussed the current strike that the Writers Guild of America called for and the coming negotiations for their own contract.

In regards to the failed negotiations between the WGA and AMPTP, Glatter stated that she “wish[ed] the AMPTP had listened to their concerns and they would have found a way to negotiate and found a contract,” and that things proceeded the way they did because “those issues and concerns were not met,” Glatter continued, confirming that she, in particular, is not in contact with the WGA and that they are “hesitant” to have a public conversation.

The DGA’s negotiations are rapidly approaching while overall tensions are running high. In response to whether now would be a good time to really start talking, especially since some of the goals of the WGA and the DGA will overlap, Glatter said that “this is about setting the course for the industry for the future,” and “this is fighting for our future right now.”

In a parallel that brings the overall situation to a level many can understand, Glatter stated, “This is about setting the course for the industry for the future. We’re in a team sport. We’re only as good as our teams.” She continued, “It’s really important that our members are treated fairly.” Glatter ended her comments by stating, “We have an interest in keeping our industry vibrant and sustainable.”
