Way back in the pilot episode of The Walking Dead, fans were introduced to Morgan Jones, who is played by Lennie James. In that episode we learned that he was a father who helped protagonist Rick Grimes learn what had happened at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse. Jones would then not return to the show until season 3, where we then learned that his son had been turned into a walker. He would continue to appear in episodes of The Walking Dead and also transitioned into Fear the Walking Dead.

Fear the Walking Dead is about to enter into its final season, and ahead of that, Lennie James talked to CBR about his future as Morgan after season eight and other items regarding the show.

When asked whether Morgan might ever return to the series, he indicated “This is it for me. He’s been around long enough. For me to pick up the stick again, it would have to be an amazing storyline. It would have to be a situation where I couldn’t look back on all the episodes that I’ve done so far and go, ‘No, I did that in episode such and such in season such and such.’ I’m not interested in repeating myself with Morgan at the moment. I think it would kind of slightly tarnish his legacy.”

Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 premieres May 14th at 9PM ET on AMC and AMC+ with new episodes releasing every Sunday.
