Star Wars: Ahsoka is turning out to be a vehicle for bringing the animated characters from Star Wars Rebels to live action for the first time. Ahsoka already made the jump in Season 2 of The Mandalorian. With the new series other characters like Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla get live-action counterparts. The latest character to join the series is bringing his voice actor along with him. Lars Mikkelsen, who voices Thrawn in Rebels, will reprise his role in the Ahsoka series.

In an interview with Empire, Mikkelsen shared his different approach to the live-action project. The actor explained, “I’m not losing the voice, but I am tweaking it into live-action. When you do an animated character, there’s a whole melodious approach. When you’re there as a real person, that would be just slightly too much.”

In addition to his acting techniques, Mikkelsen described how he loved Thrawn’s character, "I love the way he rises through the Empire, and the way he carries himself in that environment to become somebody. And then of course, how can you not like a very clever villain? Thrawn takes the time to understand his opponent’s culture, and what they’re about. It’s lovely to be playing that." Ahsoka releases in August on Disney+, bringing Thrawn and other fan-favorite characters to live-action for the first time.
