Kevin Smith Praises James Gunn For Facing DC Rumors Head On

Filmmaker and actor, Kevin Smith, recently praised fellow filmmaker and current co-chair of DC Studios, James Gunn, on the latest episode of his YouTube podcast, Fatman and Beyond. Smith’s praise was directed to Gunn for what Smith stated was Gunn’s ability and willingness to serve as his own “publicist” and personally address online rumors and fan concerns, as opposed to other movie studio heads, referring to Marvel Studios.
Smith is quoted on his podcast as saying, “Everyone should be as accountable as he is. I know a lot of people are like, ‘Ah, I don’t like what he’s doing!’ But, at least he’s answering questions. He’s not hiding. And he’s not being sh**** about it… He’s like, ‘Look, we’re doing a thing. And we’re sorry if that hurts some people’s feelings.’ I respect that he’s answering questions. He doesn’t have to. How often does anybody over at Marvel go, ‘Alright, let’s address the fans’ concerns!’ It doesn’t really happen.”

The aforementioned rumors are likely the ones that have been swirling over the future of the Superman franchise and the casting of the next Superman movie after the studio recently announced that Henry Cavill will not be returning as the titular Man of Steel. Gunn is said to be focused on the creative direction of the DC Universe (DCU) in his current role as co-chair of DC Studios.
