Kenya Barris Has Been Selected by Warner Bros. To Write And Direct A New Reimagining Of 'The Wizard Of Oz'
A reimagining of The Wizard of Oz has been announced by Warner Bros., as revealed by Deadline. Kenya Barris has been tasked with writing and directing this modern interpretation of the fantasy classic, with his company, Khalabo Ink Society, taking the producing role.
Barris has created the hit series Black-ish and its spin-offs Mixed-ish and Grown-ish. In recent times, he has been moving to feature films. His screenplays for films such as Girls Trip, Coming 2 America and the recent modern interpretation of Cheaper by the Dozen have been praised by review outlets, which hopefully bodes well for The Wizard of Oz.

His soon to be released directorial debut of You People sees Barris join Jonah Hill to write this comedy romance that tells a story of modern love and family dynamics through a newly joined couple and their families. It is expected to arrive this year with a star-studded cast featuring Eddie Murphy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Andrea Savage.
