Keanu Reeves' States A Role In The MCU "Would Be An Honor"
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has rapidly become one of the most successful movie franchises of all time. Since the debut of Iron Man in 2008, Marvel movies have brought together some of the world's most talented filmmakers and actors to build a deep and interconnected universe that has resonated with a huge fanbase.
One of the strengths of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been the casting of its heroes and villains. Combining some of the best, well-established actors with up-and-comers who are striving to prove themselves, all of them portraying widely relatable, well-written characters. Some of the highlights include Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Paul Bettany as Vision, and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff.

As the current phase of MCU films enters the realm of the multiverse, and the highly anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home nears release, Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios smartly brought in the most popular villains of past Spider-Man eras. Including Albert Melina as Doc Ock and the Green Goblin from the Raimi films, as well as Jaime Foxx's Electro and the Lizard from The Amazing Spider-Man. One actor who has yet to appear in a Marvel film is the popular and talented Keanu Reeves.
Of course, this has been noticed by filmgoers and Marvel fans alike. In a recent interview while promoting the fourth Matrix film, Reeves was asked about being cast in a MCU film. The interview, which occurred on Esquire's YouTube series "Explain This", and can be seen in its entirety below, included this statement from Reeves about the playing a MCU character;
"It would be an honor. There are some really amazing directors and visionaries, and they're doing something no one's really ever done. It's special in that sense, in terms of the scale, the ambition, the production. It would be cool to be a part of that."
Given the success of the MCU, and the number of big name stars who have been cast in the franchise, it is surprising that an actor of Keanu Reeves popularity has yet to be cast. After the success of the John Wick series, and the lasting popularity of the Matrix films (with the fourth film hitting theaters December 22nd), Reeves has become something of a household name. This popularity has bee furthered by the internet's obsession with the actor, with Reeves' friendly demeanor and down-to-earth behavior turning many casual filmgoers into fans.
Fans have cast Reeves in the MCU as a wide variety of roles, most of them being titular heroes, with a few interesting exceptions. The list of fan-casts includes Moon Knight, Mr. Fantastic, Black Knight, and Dracula. Some of these roles are off the table however, as both of the Knights have already been cast, with Oscar Isaac playing the lead role in the upcoming Moon Knight Disney+ show and Kit Harrington being introduced in Eternals as the soon-to-be Black Knight, Keanu will have to settle for other roles.
With his soft-spoken demeanor and his history of playing in darker films and roles, Reeves would be a perfect choice for a character in the occult side of the MCU. As "things that go bump in the night," such as vampires, are introduced into the franchise, Reeves could soon be cast to fill a coffin. With Mahershala Ali being cast as the MCU's Blade, Keanu Reeves would be an excellent choice to play against Ali's Blade as the legendary vampire; Dracula.
As the MCU continues to grow in popularity, with highly anticipated movies and streaming series on the way, different types of actors will be needed to fill legendary character roles from the Marvel comics. Keanu Reeves has long been a beloved and talented actor, and his introduction into the MCU seems like only a matter of time.
