Director Robert Rodriguez Shown Acting Out 'The Book Of Boba Fett' Fight Scene

At long last, we are finally getting a solo Boba Fett project! Fans have long petitioned for a movie starring the bounty hunter, and it appeared that a film was in the works for a while. However, now we know that the Boba Fett project is a show that will be streamed on Disney+, and it is only mere weeks away. Despite the premiere date drawing closer, details from the show have been kept relatively quiet. Aside from the recent trailer, there has not been a lot of footage or images released, and that is probably out of a desire to keep the show from being spoiled. However, Empire has just released a new image of one of the series’ directors, Robert Rodriguez, on set.

The photo from Empire shows Robert Rodriguez on set wielding a weapon, surrounded by some type of warriors from the show. Some fans have speculated that these could be Ithorian guards, but that has not been confirmed yet. It appears that Rodriguez is showing the cast the way to use the weapon in the shot, which has been seen in set photos from numerous directors. This scene actually appears to have been in the trailer for the show. In the trailer (around the 1:20 mark) we see Boba and Fennec surrounded by these guards before the camera cuts immediately to Boba using one of their weapons to furiously slash down on one of the guards. It is extremely reminiscent of the scene of Boba fighting Stormtroopers on Tython from season 2 of The Mandalorian

This is appropriate since Robert Rodriguez directed that particular episode of The Mandalorian and is also directing parts of The Book of Boba Fett. It also coincides with a statement he made to Empire about the brutality of the show:

“We’ll see a lot more of his true character in this season. And you’ll definitely see him have to turn ‘barbarian mode.’”

The particular photo seems to imply that the scene from the trailer and in The Mandalorian season 2 will not be the only times we get to see Boba Fett get his hands dirty. The show will also focus heavily on the Star Wars criminal underworld. From the ending of The Mandalorian and the trailer, it seems Boba is trying to take over Jabba’s crime empire after having killed Bib Fortuna at the end of season 2 of The Mandalorian. Obviously, this is no easy task, and it makes sense for the bounty hunter to have to get his point across through aggressive negotiation.

Robert Rodriguez has directed some truly stellar action movies like Sin City and Machete. I have full confidence that this Boba Fett will be the iconic bounty hunter we all dreamed he would be. Not to mention, Robert Rodriguez is a huge fan of Star Wars, and has a lot of respect for the franchise.

The show also has some fantastic people filling out the cast. Namely, Temuera Morrison is returning to the series in live-action since 2002’s Attack of the Clones, and he is getting to play his own on-screen son. That is, of course, not including his appearance in The Mandalorian. Ming-Na Wen is also returning as the bounty hunter Fennec Shand who we learned has been aiding Boba Fett in season 2 of The Mandalorian. We also know that Jennifer Beals will be making an appearance in the show at some point, although we do not know who she will be playing or what episode she will appear in yet. Even with the limited amount of details we have so far, the show is still shaping up to be incredibly impressive, and hopefully, this will finally give the bounty hunter the spotlight he has always deserved.

Catch the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+ on December 29, 2021.
