Kareem Daniel, One Of Bob Chapek’s Top Picks, Exits Disney Amid Bob Iger’s Changes To The Company
The fallout from the surprise announcement of Bob Chapek stepping down as Disney’s CEO and Bob Iger returning to his former post continues as Kareem Daniel leaves the company. Analysts expect broad changes to the executive board as Iger plans to “set the strategic direction for renewed growth.” It is understood Iger intends to steer the company structure for more focus on the creative strength of their products.
In a message to employees delivered on Monday of Disney Media and Entertainment, Iger said,
“I’ve asked Dana Walden, Alan Bergman, Jimmy Pitaro, and Christine McCarthy to work together on the design of a new structure that puts more decision-making back in the hands of our creative teams and rationalizes costs, and this will necessitate a reorganization of Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution. As a result, Kareem Daniel will be leaving the company, and I hope you will all join me in thanking him for his many years of service to Disney.”
When Bob Chapek first took the reigns of Disney, his goal was to prioritize the company’s streaming ambitions. Therefore, he created the media and entertainment distribution group, which handled the distribution, operations, sales, advertising data, and technology across the board of Disney’s content. Chapek chose Daniel, a fourteen-year veteran of the company, to spearhead the division.
Iger said of the new direction being taken without Daniel; “In a world and business that is awash with data, it is tempting to use data to answer all of our questions, including creative questions. I urge all of you not to do that.” Before taking the position, Daniel was the president of Disney’s consumer products, games, and publishing.
