With the WGA strike over, we are now starting to get a flood of upcoming projects that have been waiting for public consumption. Disney is certainly at the forefront with a follow-up to a project originally announced in 2020 and with a spooky season connection. Back in 2009, The Princess and the Frog was released to a lot of great fanfare. It was an under-appreciated film set in the voodoo-centric city of New Orleans, featuring a popular Disney princess in Tiana and an underrated villain in Dr. Facilier. In the movie, which is a take on the classic fairy tale, a prince is turned into a frog by a voodoo priest and must be kissed by a princess to be made human again.

The movie had a great following with a lot of girls out there clamouring to be Tiana whenever the occasion called for it and while Disney was a little slow to get on board with the franchise, 2023 is going to see an uptick in business. Already this year Splash Mountain in Walt Disney World was shut down to turn into a Princess and the Frog ride and now we are getting a new musical-themed Disney+ show with returning lead actress Anika Noni Rose. The show will be brought to us by Joyce Sherri who was a writer for the series Midnight Mass, an extremely popular horror series by Mike Flanagan.

As per a report from Variety, “the official description for ‘Tiana’ states that the show will follow the title character as she ‘sets off for a grand new adventure as the newly crowned Princess of Maldonia, but a calling to her New Orleans past isn’t far behind.’” Whilst it is unlikely that there will be any horror, there may well be some voodoo to enjoy.
