As most Star Wars fans know by now, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) was reunited with the internet’s favorite adorable little green meme generator, not in his own show, but instead in The Book of Boba Fett. Although the word has likely gotten around at this point, there was a long period of time before Jon Favreau, who produced and wrote both The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian, has recently spoken up about this.

“We have characters that exist in both sets of stories, so we can use the opportunity of The Book of Boba Fett to check in on where these characters are. I knew that I didn’t want to dedicate a lot of screen time within The Mandalorian to a period of time where there wasn’t a lot of character progression. Both [Din and Grogu] were kind of stuck, as far as character progression goes, until they were reunited. So, my feeling was that it would allow me to do both of those things and freed me up now two years later to have a whole new context for these two characters to have a relationship and move forward.”

The reunion of the two characters was briefly explained in-universe in a conversation Din has with series mainstay Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), catching up the fans who missed the spin-off series. “The gauntlet was thrown down in season one, we had to top it in season two,” Weathers said. “And here we are in season three, again, we have to top season two. Jon Favreau is not going to let things down. I got a feeling we’re gonna get there.”
