'John Wick 5' Is Officially Being Written And More To Come

The John Wick Cinematic Universe is expanding. What started as a movie about an ex-assassin going after the people who killed his dog, has expanded into four movies, and multiple spin-offs. John Wick 5 was originally in the works and was supposed to be filmed alongside John Wick 4. However, things changed, and only the fourth movie was shot. It seemed, especially after the events of the most recent movie, that John Wick 5 couldn’t work, but according to Lionsgate, the fifth installment is officially being written.
During the Lionsgate quarterly earnings call, the studio's group chair, Joe Drake, confirmed that writing on the fifth movie has resumed, following the conclusion of the Writer’s Strike. He also confirmed that there are more spin-offs in the works as well. The current confirmed spin-offs are the television series The Continental, and the upcoming movie, Ballerina, with Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Wick, and features a new assassin played by Ana De Armas.

Despite the concrete ending of John Wick 4, director Chad Stahelski teased that he has multiple notebooks filled with ideas for the franchise. These ideas could even range all the way to John Wick 9. Stahelski also confirmed that he shot two different endings for the fourth movie, but test audiences gravitated more toward the one that left the fate of John Wick more ambiguous.
