Jeremy Strong, Star Of HBO's 'Succession' Reveals That He Almost Played Captain America In The MCU
We first meet Steve Rogers as a scrawny boy from Brooklyn in Captain America: The First Avenger and is played by Chris Evans. However, the scrawny body was not his; instead, Chris Evans's head was superimposed on someone else's body. Jeremy Strong, of Succession, has revealed that he was nearly cast as the pre-serum body of Captain America.
Strong revealed that he was broke, and the idea of being the body of pre-serum Steve Rogers was very tempting. When he was first told about the role, it was described as a "top-secret film about Captain America." Chris Evans's head would be digitally altered onto Strong's body.
Strong considers it part of the story of his time in LA. He felt like what he had to offer was not valued in LA, so he returned to New York. He then portrayed a disabled veteran from Afghanistan in a play that took place during the blackout of 2003.
When Chris Evans learned of the news, he replied, "Oh no!". The two grew up together in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Ever since Evans saw Strong play a hobbit as a kid, he's been a longtime fan. He even called the performance "phenomenal."
