Jedi: Fallen Order's Sequel Just Got Its Title And It Is 'Survivor'

The 'Fallen Order' sequel will be titled 'Survivor' and will likely focus on Cal Kestis and BD-1

With the success of the video game Jedi: Fallen Order, released in 2019 for PC and then in 2021 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox, the question was not if there would be a sequel to the popular single-player game, but when. Officially announced on January 25 2022, it is still unclear when the game will be released, as Electronic Arts initial plan to make it available this year will likely not be feasible and the game will slip to 2023 at the earliest.

But what we do know now is what the sequel will be called and it is quite a fitting name: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The title was confirmed by video game insider Jeff Grubb, who has teased his listeners for some time now during his livestreams by declaring that he would confirm the title if one of his listeners guessed it correctly. During the latest episode of Grubb’s GiantBomb show someone obviously thought of a certain Destiny’s Child song (or something like that), and guessed the title correctly, prompting Grubb to keep his promise. The news was later also confirmed by the reputable Bespin Bulletin site, which has sitting on this information for a month now, but was not allowed to share it.

Aside from the title, not much more is known about the game at this time, other than that it will be developed by Respawn Entertainment, while Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm will be responsible for the publishing, just like its predecessor. Also, not a big surprise, it will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and it will very likely be another single player game.

While the title clearly points at Cal Kestis, who without a doubt is a true survivor after all the mayhem that the Empire sent after him in the first game, it is also possible that Kestis might encounter another Jedi or Padawan who wasn’t killed during Order 66 and the ensuing Purge and who could help him on his missions and maybe continue his training. As Lucasfilm tries to tie all of its stories together, be it on television, in books, comics or video games, this hypothetical other survivor (if they actually appear in the game) might not be some random Force user, who was just created for this game, but might tie into the bigger Star Wars lore.

Cal Kestis and his trusty droid, BD-1, face down an oncoming threat

Now that the cat is out of the bag, it seems logical that Lucasfilm Games will have no choice but to officially confirm the title and maybe also provide additional information on when we can expect to find it on shelves. A fitting possibility to do so would be the upcoming Celebration Anaheim, which is, at the time of writing this article, just two weeks away. Currently the schedule of panels doesn’t include a timeslot for such an announcement, but as “always in motion the future is,” Lucasfilm could make such an amendment to the panels of the convention at any time.

When Jedi: Fallen Order was released, it got a lot of praise both from critics and the gaming community, for its gameplay and the creative story, which focused heavily on the Inquisitors as the main antagonists of Cal Kestis. This story was further expanded in a comic miniseries called Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order – Dark Temple, which serves as a prequel to the game and was also released in 2019. And if Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be able to keep the promises that its predecessor made and be similarly successful, a further sequel is not unlikely, as EA’s CEO, Andrew Wilson, has called Jedi: Fallen Order the first title in a new franchise.
