James Mangold Set to Direct a 'Star Wars' Film about the Genesis of the Jedi Order
Fans looking for new big-screen Star Wars content are in for a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one at Star Wars Celebration in London. Announced were not one, not two, but three new Star Wars movies. However, they will not be a set trilogy, but three standalone movies. The first of these movies will be directed by Dave Filoni, and would tie together many shows he’s been heavily involved in, including The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett, and the upcoming, Ahsoka series. The second movie, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy would take place 15 years after Raise of Skywalker and is set to have Daisey Ridley return as Rey. The third will be directed by James Mangold (Logan) and will talk about the origins of the Jedi.

Mangold’s film is currently set to take place approximately 25,000 years before the events of the Original Trilogy, which he described as being a “Biblical epic” in a recent quote. “It’s a chance to tell the entire story of its own, the birth of the force. When I first talked to Kathy Kennedy about it, I just said, ‘I just see this opening to make kind of a Ben-Hur or The 10 Commandments about the birth of the force.’” He continued describing his movie by tying in religious aspects of the force. “The Force has become a kind of religious legend that spans through all these movies. But where did it come from? How is it found? Who found it? Who was the first Jedi? And that’s what I’m writing right now.”
As of now, none of the three movies announced has an official release date, and deeper details about the plots have not yet been revealed.
