James Gunn Is Writing A New 'Superman' Film, But No Lead Actor Has Been Attached To The Project Yet
The DCEU, as fans knew it is dead and seemingly getting a reboot. Over the past week, James Gunn and Peter Safran told Superman Actor Henry Cavill that he would not return for the next Superman project. The upcoming film is said to center around Kal-El as he arrives in the great city of Metropolis for the first time. Although Cavill will not be returning in the title role, Gunn did signal an amicable parting between the studio and actor as conversations were held on future projects wherein the director and actor could collaborate.
As a media conglomerate, DC has historically struggled with its live-action films critically while maintaining a level of commercial success. As a result, DC television and animation have been two of the company's most vital departments. The Gunn-Safran leadership team is strategically moving to consolidate the company's assets and consistently produce quality products. Currently, DC has several films in production. This slate of films includes the following: A Shazam sequel, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman & the Lost Kingdom are forthcoming and slated to hit theaters in 2023. After these movies were released, the makeup of the DCEU would be drastically different.
