James Gunn Celebrates Anniversary Of Announced DC Slate
One year ago, the mastermind behind the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy, James Gunn, announced the revamp he designed alongside Peter Safran for the cinematic future of DC comics.
The first chapter would be called Gods and Monsters and currently includes Gunn’s Superman Legacy, a Batman and Robin film based on The Brave and the Bold, a Swamp Thing feature. As stated in earlier development, Superman Legacy is set to begin filming in March, and its premiere is scheduled for June 11, 2025.

David Corenswet will star in this new take on the Man of Steel, joined by Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
This film will focus on Superman’s Kryptonian heritage and how it will reconcile with his human upbringing as Clark Kent. James Gunn has emphasized that Superman Legacy will not be an origin story in any way, instead, it intends to reassure that Superman is the embodiment of justice and truth, a kind being in a world that finds no value in kindness anymore.
James Gunn commemorated the anniversary with a social media post that reads:
“One year ago today Peter Safran & I introduced our DC slate for the 1st time - thanks to all of you for the support you’ve given us throughout the year. Today, Superman Legacy is about to start production, episodes of Creature Commandos are being finished that will release later this year, at least 2 more projects are gearing up to go in the next couple months, amazing scripts keep coming in, & incredible talent are being attached to new projects, planned & unplanned. Thank you!!”
His words reflect his dedication and passion for these projects, proving once more why his work has the impact it does, wherever he goes.
