With new films and series appearing on streaming platforms nearly every day, it’s no surprise a new series will be appearing soon on Disney+. Joining the roster of the Disney+ original series will be the “Spiderwick Chronicles”. Brought to life from the popular book of the same name by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, the central story will still be based on the Grace family moving into a “dilapidated ancestral home” only to discover their great-great uncle may have unearthed a faerie world existing along their own.

According to What’s On Disney Plus, the new cast will include Christian Slater, Lyon Daniels, Joy Bryant, Mychala Lee, Noah Cottrell, Momona Tamada & Alyvia Alyn Lind. With such a diverse cast, the series aims to explore the story and characters in-depth. This was noted to be lacking in the first adaption of the “Spiderwick Chronicles”; a 2008 film starring Freddie Highmore as twins Jared and Simon Grace.

While reviews were generally positive, they did not translate to box office success. As stated by movieweb.com, “One of the challenges the film faced was trying to fit the complex story into a limited runtime.” The latest Disney+ series adaptation benefits from being a long-form series as it allows more time to explore the story and characters. Luckily for fans of the fantasy series, the TV adaptation aims to be faithful to the source material. With a faithful adaptation comes the inclusion of novel accurate characters, such as Jack Dylan Grazer joining the cast as the voice of Thimbletack, a boggart living in the walls of the Spiderwick Estate.

Thimbletack is described as “hundreds of years old…still a teenager amongst his kind, a mischief-maker with an explosive temper.…if only he could learn to control his own larger-than-life emotions.” Luckily, Grazer is no stranger to voice acting. Outside of his role in Shazam! Grazer was notably the voice of Alberto in Disney/Pixar’s Luca. The newest “Spiderwick Chronicles” has yet to reveal a release date, but when the time comes, it appears to be awaiting an eager audience.
