It Will Be A Battle Between Studios As 'Fantastic Four' And 'Superman: Legacy' Both Release July 2025
DC Studios and Marvel are going head-to-head in the ultimate box office battle next July. Currently both Fantastic Four and Superman: Legacy are scheduled to release in the same month, pitching superhero fans against each other.
Both movies are reboots. Superman: Legacy is James Gunn’s shake-up of the entire DC universe, erasing Zac Snyder’s creations from the main timeline. It’s a flagship project that hopes to end the list of flops, and cancellations with a clean slate. DC announced their release date back in November, coming out of the gate first.

Marvel’s Fantastic Four seems to get rebranded (either in the graphic novels or on screen) every few years. Leaks before Christmas hinted that Pedro Pascal would be heading up the cast. They were confirmed over the last few days by director Matt Shakman, followed up by a Valentine’s Day card with all four leads and release date.
Once the excitement died down fans quickly realised that was going to be a busy month. To make matters worse, Sony has booked a slot in theatres starting 27 June 2025 for an ‘untitled Marvel movie’. It hasn’t been announced yet, but the current line of thought is that it could be Spider-Man 4. Whilst this is possible it is hard to imagine two Marvel MCU blockbuster films going head-to-head with each other.
Audiences have been complaining of ‘superhero fatigue’ and with three big movies coming over the summer of next year, it is unlikely that all of them will hit big at the box office. Unless there are production issues, it's unlikely that Marvel or DC will back down on their dates, so we’ll just have to wait and see who the winners and losers are.
