Is Nintendo's New Joy-Con Charging Dock Sign Of Upcoming Reveal?
Nintendo is arguably the greatest gaming company out there. While it is notorious for pursuing IP infringement and violations, it is also unlike most other companies. Even the CEO took a 50% pay cut to avoid layoffs in an industry that is plagued by them at the moment. They also have a penchant for bucking the pattern of their rivals at Microsoft and Sony and pursuing a broader approach in the games they allow on their consoles. Needless to say, their behavior is odd.
This latest news continues that trend. It’s widely known now that the Switch 2 (if that’s what its name is going to be) is coming soon, with Nintendo saying that likely to be in the next fiscal year (which takes us into 2025, just to be clear). What is odd about that is they just revealed an official charging station for the Joy-Cons on the Switch that is set to release in October.

While that coincides with the upcoming release of the new Mario Party game, it’s a little odd. Where was this years ago, and why at the end of the Switch’s standalone life? Rumors claim that the Switch 2’s Joy-Con will attach via magnets, which would prevent them from utilizing this station, so why now, and why so close to the launch of the successor system? Speculation claims this is a harbinger because it would be the only way to charge old Joy-Cons.
Fiscal year 2025 has already begun, so expect more information about the Switch 2 as the days tick by.
