Late this past week Disney announced at D23 and through social media that their highly successful animation, Inside Out, will get a sequel (see tweet below). Inside out is an original Disney/Pixar, and the 2015 movie had a really good box office during that year, earning close to US$ 860 million worldwide according to USA Today. Per Variety, Meg LeFauve and Pete Docter return to write the sequel, with fellow Inside Out colleague Mark Nielsen as producer.

The animated movie tells the story of a young girl called Riley, who after moving from the Midwest to San Francisco, struggles with how to deal with her emotions. The human emotions, in this movie, although very simplified, convey an important message to the public. Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) are shown to fight among them how Riley’s transition to a new life should be handled. Since the end showed a calmer Riley, now knowing how to deal - somewhat - with her emotions, the sequel could be set in her teenage years. This would present a bigger challenge for the 5 characters because this period of everyone’s lives is usually turbulent.

Although nothing is confirmed so far regarding the plot, Disney has announced that the movie will premiere in the Summer of 2024, with no exact date so far. This leaves lots of time for a trailer to be released, besides additional information regarding the movie in general.
