'Inside Out 2' Has Become The Fastest Animated Film To Reach $1B At The Box Office
The summer box office has been dominated by Inside Out 2, which has become the fastest animated film to reach $1 billion. The film accomplished this in just three weeks of its release. For reference, in 2015, the original animated film brought in $90 million in its summer opening weekend and earned $858.8 million in total box office sales.
The original film characterized the emotions of eleven-year-old Riley with the core operations crew of Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Disgust. The plot saw the challenging, complex emotions personified in young Riley’s mind as she navigated her world as a tweenager. Riley turned twelve at the end of the movie.

Inside Out 2, directed by Kelsey Mann follows Riley as she steps into her teen years at the onset of puberty, embodying a range of new emotions to join the core crew in Riley’s mind. These new emotions are Anxiety (Maya Hawke), Embarrassment (Paul Walter Hauser) Ennui (Adèle Exarchopoulos), and Envy (Ayo Ebebiri).
The voice cast also includes Kensington Tallman as Riley, Amy Poehler as Joy, Liza Lapira as Disgust, Tony Hale as Fear, Lewis Black as Anger, and Phyllis Smith as Sadness. This sequel promises an equally relatable experience to its predecessor, focusing on another transition children go through to adulthood – adolescence. It is no surprise that Inside Out 2 has been successful.
