Ubisoft Plans To Remake & Modernize Several 'Assassin's Creed' Games
Since the release of the first game in 2007, Assassin’s Creed has gone on to be one of the most popular video game franchises in the world. Spanning 13 titles of varying quality, as well as a movie adaptation that is best left forgotten, the series continues to expand, with Assassin’s Creed: Shadows set for release in November 2024. Now more games are on the horizon, but this time some familiar titles.
Yves Guillemot, the CEO of the French gaming company that develops the games, Ubisoft, has confirmed that there are multiple remakes of past games in the works. While remaining tight-lipped on which games exactly, one of the titles being thrown out is the pirate-themed Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, a game that many see as one of the pinnacles of the series. Other guesses include Assassin’s Creed 2, the first game to feature fan-favorite character Ezio Auditore. That would probably be a better title to focus on.

The second game in the series is when things really got going (though for my money, the follow-up, Brotherhood, is still probably my favorite game in the franchise) but anyone who plays it these days can’t deny how dated the graphics and gameplay are, even if the story and characters are as strong as they were back in 2009.
It will be a few years before we see any sort of remake of any of the games. Between the work being done on Shadow and the next announced title, Assassin’s Creed: Hexe, updates to older games are a ways away.
Just don’t make us go on the roller coaster that has been the Knights of the Old Republic remake.
