In An Attempt To Avoid 'Starfield' Release Date, 'Baldur's Gate 3' Will Release Early
To avoid the heavy September release period, which includes Bethesda’s newest RPG, Starfield, Larian Studios is moving the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 to August, at least on PC. Set originally to be leaving Early Access on August 31, Baldur’s Gate 3 will instead become a full game on August 3. Meanwhile, the PS5 version has been delayed from that date by a week, with it now arriving on September 6.
Talking with Kotaku, Larian founder Swen Vincke says that the decision was brought about by the increasing number of games being released in the Fall period. “We saw that it was a very busy year, with Zelda, with Diablo, and Starfield, with Cyberpunk, and then there’s Final Fantasy – so we started looking ‘okay, well, what’s the good spot when people will be able to play, and they’re not going to be fighting for attention?’”

For the PS5 release, Larian Studios wants the game to hit 60 frames per second, which many gamers expect of big-budget games. “We’re very close to reaching that,” Vincke said. “So we wanted some extra time. It also takes some time to go through submissions. And so that’s how that came to be.” As for where the Xbox Series X|S version is, Larian Studios are still working through the unique challenges that two differently powered versions of the same console provide.
“The team is committed to working on it, it has for a long time already. So they’re going bit by bit, you know, like, you tear down one performance barrier and go to the next one. So it’s just a matter of time. It just requires work. It’s development. And sometimes you have some setbacks, and sometimes you go forward.” Despite the development problems, Vincke says that Microsoft has been supportive of the problems they have faced.
