Iconic 'Sonic The Hedgehog' Statue Restored In Time For Gamescom
Sonic memorabilia is constantly being uncovered, and the latest finding is being shown at Gamescom. A Sonic statue featured at Segaworld in the United Kingdom is being featured at Gamescom. The arcade was open from about 1996-1999. The effort is similar to that of the search and restoration of the Sonic and Sally statues from SEGA World in Sydney, Australia. The statue was found in a very bad state, caked in dirt and missing part of his globe. A timelapse was released on the official SEGA X (formerly Twitter) account of the statue’s restoration.
The restored statue will greet guests as they enter the SEGA booth to try out Sonic Superstars, which is playable at their booth. This statue was initially thought to be lost but turned up in 2019 covered in boxes and other trash. Now, the statue has been restored with the help of 13 Finger FX, a Croydon-based FX house. The gaming convention will be less about showing off new projects and more about showing the progress of current projects. This is a historic find for the Sonic community and gaming at large. Who knows what piece of gaming memorabilia will be found next? Things seem to be looking up for the blue blur.
