Iconic Actor Paul Reubens Dead At 70
Actor Paul Reubens, best known to moviegoers as the iconic character of Pee-Wee Herman, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023. Reubens was 70 years old and it was subsequently revealed that he had been privately struggling with cancer for the past six years. Reubens’ TV and movie credits were extensive and wide-ranging, including both live-action roles and voiceovers. However, his recurring role as Pee-Wee Herman, a childlike man, earned him the most fame and recognition.
Although Reubens had created the character years before, his breakout role as Pee-Wee Herman was 1985’s Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, which featured Pee-Wee Herman having to travel across the country in order to find his unique bicycle, which had been stolen and then sold off to Hollywood. He reprised his role as “Pee-Wee Herman” in Back To The Beach (1987), Pee-Wee’s Big Top and Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker (1988), and Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday, produced by Netflix in 2016. His most enduring performance as Pee-Wee Herman was from the popular series Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, which aired on Saturday mornings from 1986-1990.
