'Elemental' Surpasses 'Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse' At Worldwide Box Office
It appears that despite opening weekend numbers in the just-shy-of-$30-million range, Disney/Pixar’s Elemental may have had a fairy godmother watching over the film in terms of longevity. It has managed to surpass Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in gross box office sales.
This is impressive, as Spider-Man made over $120 million in its opening weekend alone. Spidey and all of his selves have currently grossed $379 million domestically. It has been reported that by the end of June, however, Elemental caught up, making over $300 million. This number is the result of the film keeping enough of a steady interest at the box office to gradually draw audiences in.

Elemental is demonstrating that slow and steady can win the race. Fast-forward from opening weekend to its fifth weekend in global cinemas, where the 27th Pixar film made $28.2 million, coming close to matching its opening weekend. Collider reports that it may be possible at this point that Elemental could prove to be Disney’s highest-grossing animated film since the onset of the pandemic, noting that it has already surpassed both Lightyear and Encanto in box office sales.
According to CNN, the movie has achieved milestones not seen by Pixar since the original Toy Story. Internationally speaking, it is expected to cross the $400 million mark this week. And after premiering in Japan on August 4th, the projection for box office earnings is expected to jump up to around $430 million.
