It has previously been announced that Sonic Frontiers is going to be receiving three waves of DLC, and the third will include an expanded story mode. However, Morio Kishimoto has now revealed that Ian Flynn will be returning to write the story for this content. Kishimoto revealed this in a tweet:

The tweet translates to the following:

“Of course, Ian Flynn will write it! Although Sonic Frontiers has a huge amount of settings, there are many episodes that could not be told. Now that we've decided which episode to go with, I'm sure we'll be able to meet everyone's expectations!”

RELATED:

Ian Flynn wrote the dialogue for Sonic Frontiers and has been writing for the Sonic comics starting with Archie’s run in 2006, and he transferred to the IDW comics once SEGA canceled the Archie comics in 2018. Flynn is praised by fans for focusing on the characters and the lore of the long-running franchise, and this transferred to his writing in the games. The new story’s DLC will feature new playable characters other than Sonic, and it is rumored that these characters are going to be Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. It is expected that the DLC will answer the remaining mysteries of the base game, including the mysterious symbol heavily featured in the promotion for the game. Kishimoto also revealed, in another tweet, the meaning behind the game’s working title, Sonic Rangers.

“Rangers is the development code name for Sonic Frontier. The content of the game was already decided before I took over as director. When I became the director, the content of the game was changed to something completely different, but the development code name remained the same, so Rangers ended up being something completely unrelated to the content of the game.”

It’s clear that the team behind Sonic Frontiers is still hard at work expanding the game and making sure this is a Sonic experience like no other.
