'House Of The Dragon' Writers Discuss Gap Between Seasons And Why It's Longer
Considering what a massive success the series has been, it should be no surprise that House of the Dragons season 3 is coming, but there are still a couple of years before that. The season begins filming early next year, with a projected release in Summer 2026. Showrunner Ryan Condal has commented on the gap between seasons 2 and 3 stating: “I apologize for the wait.” He further explained that the complexity of shooting was to blame for the wait between seasons, but that with the creative team, he believed that they could create a great season that would be well worth it.
House of the Dragon is a prequel to HBO’s seminal Game of Thrones, based on George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel. Featuring an ensemble cast including the likes of Matt Smith and Olivia Cooke, the show focuses on the events leading up to the “Dance of Dragons”, a war of succession that lead to the decline of the House Targaryen. The series was successful, proving that ever after the controversial Season 8, there’s still life in the franchise. While fans wait for season 3, another prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is planned for release next year on HBO and Max.
