HBO's 'The Last Of Us' Will Have A Premiere Episode The Length Of A Feature Film
As the release date creeps closer and closer for the highly anticipated series, The Last of Us, crumbs of details continue to be sprinkled. The runtime for the premiere has been announced. Episode 1 will be 85 minutes long. For comparison, the recent Season 4 premiere of another HBO Max series, Titans was just under 50 minutes.
The Last of Us is based on a PlayStation 3 game from 2013, developed by Naughty Dog. The first season of the series will be adapted from this source material. The story follows a smuggler (Joel) leading a teenager (Ellie) across what is left of the United States in a post-apocalyptic world. It will star Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

Season 1 will have nine episodes in total. The total budget rests at around $200 million, making each episode’s budget about a hefty $10 million. Proper resources are needed to build a realistic post-apocalyptic world. Going off the promotional images and footage released thus far, The Last of Us is shaping up well.
The series premieres on January 15th, 2022, with a new episode dropping each Sunday, wrapping up in mid-March. It will be streaming on HBO Max.
