Game of Thrones fans, it is time to get ready to revisit Westeros as Warner Bros. Discovery has announced a new prequel series is now officially in the works. During the company’s presentation to the press and investors on Wednesday, it was announced that the series based on George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg books was a go. This news comes roughly two years after Variety had reported that the prequel series was in the works and merely months after Martin announced that some of the planned Game of Thrones content had been canceled after the Warner Bros. and Discovery merger.

The show will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) 90 years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire on which the Game of Thrones series was based. The show is currently titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.  It is not surprising that another prequel featuring a Targaryen is in the works after the massive success of House of the Dragon which premiered last August and whose second season is currently in production.

There is no casting news as of yet, but Martin is set to act as writer and executive producer along with Ira Parker who worked on season one of House of the Dragon. Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon executive producers Ryan Condal and Vince Geradis will also be acting as executive producers on the new series. The official synopsis of the series reads: “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
