Guerilla Games Confirms 'Horizon: Forbidden West' Sequel In The Works Despite Change In Management
A post detailing staffing changes on the Guerrilla Games website has seemingly revealed a sequel to Horizon: Forbidden West. With veteran studio director Angie Smets leaving the company to become head of development strategy at PlayStation Studios, Guerrilla Games is now under the leadership of Joel Eschler, Hella Schmidt, and Jan-Bart van Beek.
In speaking of that new leadership, the post mentioned that “we have full confidence in our new leadership as they steer Guerrilla towards a bright future, expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure, and our exciting online project.” That online project is set to bring a unique stylised look to the world with a bunch of new characters to be interacting with.

A sequel to Horizon: Forbidden West seemed likely with how it ended, with creative director Mathijs de Jonge stating last year how events in the game set up key plot points for a potential third game. He described the series as being one of mystery, uncovering them in both the old world and the present day. That “there is plenty of backstory that we can tap into to develop new storylines and create new mysteries from what we’ve already established.”
That is something the team at Guerrilla has already been doing, with their release of PSVR2 exclusive Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Released in February, it stars a new character in Ryas, a disgraced former soldier who uncovers a new mystery surrounding the machines of the Carja Sundom peaks. For those who want to feel like they are within the world of Horizon, this VR experience will do just that.
For the next main series game, it will be interesting to see what mysteries players can uncover when the game sees its official reveal sometime in the future.
