'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Actor Karen Gillan Excited To Star In Stephen King's 'The Life Of Chuck'

Karen Gillan

Mike Flanagan is no freshman when it comes to adapting the work of Stephen King. In 2017, he wrote and directed Gerald's Game, followed by Doctor Sleep, the sequel to The Shining, only one year later. He is also working on bringing King's "opus magnum", The Dark Tower, to the small screen. But before that, he will write and direct an adaptation of The Life of Chuck, where he will be reunited with Karen Gillan. The actress and the director last collaborated more than a decade ago in Flanagan's low-budget horror film Oculus (2013).

Since then, the careers of both have taken off, with Gillan starring in blockbusters like The Guardians of the Galaxy or Jumanji and Flanagan becoming Hollywood's go-to man when it comes to creating spooky films and TV shows. It was not a lack of trying that it took so long to reunite Gillan and Flanagan: "Yeah, we’ve definitely had talks over the years of collaborating again and it never quite lined up, but it did on The Life of Chuck", explains the actress and continuous with the highest praise of Flanagan:

"He’s also one of my favorite people and just incredibly talented director. My God, he just oozes creativity. I don’t know how he’s as prolific as he is with the time that he has, but he manages to constantly put out excellent quality content."

And she gets even more excited when she talks about The Life of Chuck: "I can’t wait for everyone to see that film because it’s a masterpiece. It’s beautiful."

The Life of Chuck was published in 2020 as part of a novella collection called If It Bleeds. It tells three acts from the life of Chuck Krantz, a simple accountant with a long-standing passion for dancing, who dies in a hospital while the world is crumbling down.

Aside from Gillan, the cast includes Tom Hiddleston (Loki), as the titular character, Mark Hamill, who has recently worked with Flanagan in The Fall of the House of Usher, Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange), Jacob Tremblay (Room), Matthew Lillard (Five Nights at Freddy's), and Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street).

No release date has been revealed for the film, which is currently in post-production.
