These Sequel Era Loose Ends Need To Be Resolved
The Star Wars sequel trilogy is now long over. Some plot points have been resolved, but others still leave the audience hanging. As it is with most trilogies, there are story issues, plot holes, and missed opportunities out there. While the sequel trilogy closes a chapter on the Skywalker family, it opens up another. The stories of Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order, Finn tapping into the Force, the New Republic coming back together again, and the fate of the First Order remnants are all loose ends that need to be tied up and expanded on. Here are the questions from the sequel trilogy that fans want answered.
Rey The Jedi
Rey Skywalker. Is she the last Jedi, or perhaps the first of the new? Who knows the direction her story takes as the standard bearer for the Jedi Order? Of course we do not know what Rey will do with her new Jedi skills. Will she rebuild the Order like Luke did? Will she establish an academy to train others? Will she be a “ronin” who goes out into the universe in search of ancient knowledge as well as pioneering new Jedi ideas?

Finn The Ex-Stormtrooper
The Finn arc is one that is sadly downplayed as the sequel trilogy goes on. Finn first starts as a stormtrooper whose conscience leads to his defecting from the First Order. By the end of the sequel trilogy he sadly becomes just another friend of Rey. His story has so much untapped potential like what he will do when he encounters fellow stormtroopers who were children forced to follow the Empire/First Order. Many have thought that he would have led a stormtrooper uprising as he goes on to deal with the remnants of the First Order. There is also his potential Force sensitivity, which is hinted in Rise of Skywalker. His path to become a Jedi is another story that can be expanded upon. The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special portraying him as Rey’s first apprentice is a good start in the right direction. His relationship with both Poe and Rose is also another thread that fans want to follow. There are so much unknowns with this character that can fill up a spin-off movie or a television series.
A New New Republic
With the First Order gone, it is unclear how the rest of the galaxy will look like now that the war is over. What new form of government will take hold? Will it be a republic again with multiple powers being represented in a senate? The upcoming movie Rogue Squadron, which will follow a new set of pilots post-Rise of Skywalker, may give us a glimpse at the galaxy at large. Hopefully, we will see what happens to the remains of the First Order, and how the New Republic rebuilds itself. As the sequel trilogy does not go into the politics of the galaxy at all, it will be interesting to see this particular side of the story in the aftermath of the destruction of the First Order.
Dark Science And Cloning
What happens before the sequel trilogy is as important as what happens after. Rise of Skywalker reveals that the main villain is Palpatine all along. Perhaps a backstory of how the Emperor returns, and the rise of the First Order will give more context to the universe in this era. The Bad Batch and The Mandalorian have alluded to the Empire’s research on Force-sensitive clone. This will make a connection all the way back to the prequel trilogy, making the sequel trilogy fit in better with the rest of the saga.
Tying Up Loose Ends
At the end of the day there are many plot elements, characters and even themes that should be expanded upon. This will add to the sequel era in the long run, rounding out the time period, cementing its legacy, and making it a true part of the galaxy far, far away.
