First Live-Action Wookiee Jedi Also Gets Own Comic
The Force flows through all living beings, so it is only natural that there were Wookiee Jedi. The Clone Wars and later The Bad Batch introduced the youngling Gungi, and The High Republic novels introduced us to the Jedi Knight Burryaga Agaburry.
The Disney+ show The Acolyte features another Wookiee in the service of Light and Life: Kelnacca, the first live-action Jedi Wookiee. who will receive his own Marvel comic later this year. In the show, Kelancca will be portrayed by Joonas Suotamo, who is no stranger to playing the big, furry aliens, as he has taken over the role of Chewbacca in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy as well as in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

The comic which is written by long-term Star Wars author and High Republic alumn Cavan Scott (Star Wars Adventures, Dooku: Jedi Lost) with art by Marika Cresta, will be a prequel to The Acolyte and bridge the gap between the books and comics of The High Republic and the TV show.
“It’s been so exciting to draw a line from The Acolyte back to The High Republicera we’ve been building in comics, books, audio, and animation,” says Scott about his newest Star Wars project. “Kelnacca is the perfect character to bridge the gap between the time of Leslye Headland’s spectacular series to the age of Starlight Beacon, the threat of Marchion Ro, and the marauding Nihil".
The comic will explain the mysterious background of Kelnacca's tattoos and the Master-Apprentice relationship before the Wookiee moved to the jungles of Khofar to live in isolation.
Phil Noto will provide the main cover, with a The Force Awakens character poster-inspired variant cover by Björn Barends and a second - black and white - variant cover by Takashi Okazaki.
Star Wars: The Acolyte - Kelnacca #1 will hit newsstands on September 4, after the Acolyte has wrapped on Disney+.
