Everything We Learned About The Upcoming 'Fantastic Four' Movie At SDCC
The San Diego Comic-Con turned out to be a treasure trove of information for the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four film, officially titled The Fantastic Four- First Steps. The panel revealed that the core group- Mr Fantastic/Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Invisible Girl/Susant Storm (Vanessa Kirby), The Thing/Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Human Torch/Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn)- will be present in both upcoming Avengers films. Galactus will be a part of the film and will be played by Ralph Ineson. Michael Giacchino is set to compose the score for the film.
Attendees at the convention were treated to pre-shoot material showing that the film, much like the comics, takes place in the 1960s. Director Matt Shakman explained the setting, “We’re doing a retro-future ‘60s. Syd Mead was an inspiration. The ‘60s. to me, is all about optimism. I love the Fantastic Four. I love their power set. We want to be true to the comics but we want to be true to life.” The footage showed Pascal as Richards presenting science material in a way similar to Bill Nye’s iconic show. The footage also showed The Thing on a dating show. After this lighter opening, the clip cuts to the Fantastic Four preparing for launch, in a scene that Marvel fans will recognize as the beginning of the crew gaining superpowers. The Fantastic Four- First Steps begins the MCU’s Phase 6 and hits theaters on July 25, 2025. Phase 6 will be wrapped up in Avengers: Secret Wars.
