DC has unveiled a not-so-brand-new logo at San Diego Comic-Con this week. It comes as part of the reboot of the DC Universe, ditching the Snyderverse for James Gunn’s vision. The logo will be attached to Superman, due to release in July 2025

The new branding was announced by DC Comics Chief Jim Lee, but in a video message, James Gunn said, “I can pretend we worked long and hard on what that was. But the truth is we knew what we wanted the logo to be when we were put in charge of DC Studios.”

The logo is very similar to the 1976 incarnation designed by Milton Glaser (who also came up with the famous I Love NY heart). This suggests that James Gunn intends to take DC back to its roots. The era focused on the Justice League and the Superman Family but the 70s and 80s was an extremely creative period for DC with many new heroes coming into being such as Black Lightning, who launched his first comic in 1977.

Jim Lee said at the branding’s launch, “I remember during the renaissance of DC in the 1980s, with Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, The Shadow coming out, that was the DC logo. In the minds of many fans, that is the mark that defined the DC brand. It’s exciting to bring it back.”
