Get excited Power Rangers fans! It was only a day after the second half of season two of Dino Fury dropped on Netflix that Hasbro began holding this year’s edition of Hasbro PulseCon, showing off future products. And as promised, the cast panel, missing Blue Ranger Kai Moya but including showrunner Simon Bennett, gave insight as to what the next season, Cosmic Fury, and the 30th anniversary will be like.

First, we’re getting original suits! They’re an evolution of the Dino Fury suits. The helmets have new accents, but from the neck down to their toes there’s a new top, new belts, new pants, and even new boots! They even have capes! But does that mean we’re not adapting the Sentai series anymore? Did Hasbro and Toei’s partnership end? No, Cosmic Fury’s Zords and the footage using them will come from the 2017-2018 series Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. Bennett assures that the partnership is not only unbroken but healthy and continuing, debunking rumors that first surfaced in July 2020. As the final scene of Dino Fury season 2 promised, which Cosmic Fury picks up from, Lord Zedd will be the villain of the season. And yes, familiar supporting characters surrounding these Rangers will be appearing, but no confirmations yet.

Of course, Power Rangers, which fully moved from Nickelodeon to Netflix this year, isn’t moving again in the United States, or wherever else it already premieres episodes on the service. However, that’s not the case for places like Mexico, Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom, where it aired on Azteca 7, Teletoon, Super RTL, and Pop! respectively. These channels were the culprits for airing episodes in their countries before they could air in the US, and that’s just for this year alone. Now, Hasbro and Netflix have worked out a deal that the episodes will be released globally on the same day, finally resolving the problem that had existed most prominently since the show returned in 2011. How many episodes are we getting? Another round of 22? Are we back up nearer to 40 in a single year, where the show hadn’t been since 2005? Actually no, it’s just ten episodes, the shortest season yet. It’s almost reminiscent of the Alien Rangers miniseries, or the more recent Steven Universe Future, which had 20 quarter-hour segments

But that’s not all! At the very end, there’s a prerecorded message from David Yost, who played Billy Cranston on set in New Zealand. And Walter Emmanuel Jones, Zack Taylor the original Black Ranger, is with him. Yes, a Power Rangers 30th anniversary special for the show is happening, seemingly separately counted from the ten Cosmic Fury episodes, and is rumored to be a Mighty Morphin’ reunion. These two people returning, in particular, are fantastic. Zack was among the trio who left during season two in 1994, with Jason and Trini, the original Red and Yellow Rangers, written out in “The Power Transfer”. Jason returned on four separate occasions, but Zack never had. Yost had walked off the set late into Power Rangers Zeo, the fourth season, following continuing homophobic abuse from producers. He was also vocal about the generic invitation to appear in Super Megaforce he had received from Saban Brands for the 20th anniversary, so generic and widely sent it was addressed “Dear Power Ranger”. Clearly, the new owners at Hasbro are making amends. It’s also been found that Steve Cardenas (the second Red Ranger), canceled a convention appearance due to scheduling conflicts specifically stated to be filming in New Zealand. So the team is coming together.

While questions still loom for the show as we know it beyond this, it’s still morphin’ time. What we are getting is probably going to be a blast.
