Disney’s Investors Day 2020 was a great day for Star Wars fans, as Lucasfilm announced a bunch of new and upcoming Star Wars projects coming to theaters and coming Disney+.

On May 4th, 2021, Lucasfilm premiered one of their newest projects on Disney+, Filoni’s animated series The Bad Bach. While this series had already been announced previously, it was still showcased along with the previously unannounced stuff. The Bad Batch animated series follows elite unit Clone Force 99 after Order 66 and during the beginnings of the Galactic Empire.

Lucasfilm has scheduled two more series to be released this year. One of those upcoming series is Star Wars: Visions, which will be the first Star Wars series animated in the Japanese anime style. In December of this year, we will be getting the premiere of The Book of Boba Fett, which was announced at the end of season The Mandalorian Season 2. The series will follow Boba Fett and Fennec Shand after they have taken Jabba's palace at the end of the season finale. Speaking of The Mandalorian, Season 3 is expected for 2022, though there have been rumors that it could end up being released in 2023.

Now for 2022. One of the upcoming series also previously announced by Lucasfilm was Andor, with its title finally revealed on Investors Day. Andor will follow Rogue One character Cassian Andor, and will begin five years before that film. The series is still a mystery in terms of its plot, but it is expected to be released in 2022.

Another Star Wars series scheduled to be released sometime in 2022 is the miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is set ten years after Revenge of the Sith and promises to show us one last confrontation between Kenobi and Lord Vader. While this had previously been announced at D23 2019, Disney Investors Day is when we got the title and the tease of the confrontation, with confirmation of the return of Hayden Christensen.

Several other projects were announced that have yet to be given release dates. Series like Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka will take place within the era of The Mandalorian. The Lando series and the A Droid Story animated movie also do not have release dates attached to them, or even eras in which they are set. Another series that has no release date is The Acolyte. This Star Wars series will take place in the High Republic era, and fans speculate that it will follow the journey of a Sith Acolyte.

However, we do have a somewhat concrete release date for the next theatrical film. Rogue Squadron is scheduled to be released in December 2023. It has been teased as a "new era" for the franchise. Lucasfilm also reiterated that Taika Waititi is writing and directing his very own Star Wars feature film. His film is expected to be a new and original story that will not take place within the era of the Skywalker saga. Marvel CEO Kevin Feige, will also be making a new upcoming Star Wars project. This project, like the untitled Star Wars film by J. D. Dillard, remains in full mystery to the fans, as Lucasfilm has not revealed any details on the plot, story, or a release date. Plus, we have known for years that Rian Johnson was supposed to co-write a new Star Wars trilogy. He has said that it is not cancelled, but Lucasfilm has not revealed more details on the matter.

Investors Day was a huge day for Star Wars fans as we all got to see the future of Star Wars. Although the Skywalker saga has come to an end, there are still many stories within the timeline to be told. Lucasfilm gave us all hope for the Star Wars franchise, and also showed us that there is still a long ride ahead of us.
