Enola Holmes Is 'A Force Of Nature' In Sequel Trailer
Netflix's virtual expo “Tudum 2022” took place over the weekend and brought with it the anticipated trailer for Enola Holmes 2, the follow-up to the streamer’s 2020 feature that introduced movie-lovers to the eponymous heroine played by Millie Bobby Brown. In just over two minutes of footage, the studio makes it clear that the fun and frenzy of the first film is back in full force.
The trailer opens on Enola running from a couple of bobbies, a scene that was teased in a tweet back in August. As a remix of Mallory Merk’s cover of “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” plays, Enola is cornered in an alley, and her would-be captors close in confidently. She turns to the camera and addresses the audience: “Perhaps I should explain.”

What follows is a largely spoiler-free sneak peek at the setup for the franchise’s sophomore entry from returning director Harry Bradbeer. What is clear is that the youngest Holmes is struggling to make her mark in the world independent from her larger-than-life brother Sherlock. She has opened a detective agency, but a quick montage of potential clients underscores the frustrations that accompany the disadvantages of being a young, female, unknown sleuth in Victorian London. Simultaneously, Sherlock has taken a case that, in Enola’s words, “seems to be vexing him.” This statement is punctuated by a momentary physical outburst by Henry Cavill in the role of 221B Baker Street’s notable resident, followed by a strained episode in which he tortures his sister with his violin.
But then a young girl approaches Enola to enlist her services in locating her missing sister. In its remaining time, the trailer features flashes of the protagonist facing danger, discovery, disdain, dynamite, and even dancing, while the on-screen text proclaims, “This fall, adventure strikes again.” A romantic connection between Enola and Louis Partidge’s returning Tewkesbury is strongly implied, prompting more fourth wall breaking from the heroine. Sherlock asks, “Are you involved in something dangerous?” as further harrowing escapades parade across the screen, Susan Wokoma’s character, Edith declares, “You can’t control Enola Holmes - She’s a force of nature!”
Finally, cut to Enola and Sherlock tussling in a dark room before recognizing each other. Their disparate cases are apparently linked and have brought them to the same place. The last of the footage teases a team-up between the two brilliant detectives as they prepare to face whatever challenges lay before them.
Other returning characters glimpsed in the trailer include Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes and Adeel Akhtar as Lestrade, while David Thewlis and Sharon Duncan-Brewster are joining the franchise in undisclosed roles.
Enola Holmes is currently streaming on Netflix. Enola Holmes 2 will begin streaming on November 4.
