Elizabeth Olsen Responds To Rumors About Marvel Contract

Elizabeth Olsen has become a popular mainstay within the Marvel Cinematic Universe with her portrayal of Scarlet Witch. With her latest appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans are eager to find out from Olsen about her Marvel future.

With the ever-growing roster of talent in Marvel productions, it seems only right that Marvel wants to cling onto the stars of their projects. They have previously signed big deals with stars such as Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans which entailed negotiations for their number of appearances in Marvel properties. Since Olsen's first appearance in the post-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, she has appeared in a total of 7 Marvel projects (including the Disney+ series WandaVision) and quickly become a fan favourite. She recently opened up about her future and how her contract has previously worked in an interview with Collider.

Olsen opened up about her Marvel contract and whether we will see her again in upcoming projects and stated about previous negotiations, "I sign an extension every time they want me to do a movie." Whilst this could be taken to mean we are unsure of more appearances, Olsen was quick to stress this may not be the end:

I sign extensions every time they want me to do a movie. I just signed a very short one at the beginning, so everything’s constantly just, it’s always adjusting for me. No. I don’t think of this either as the end.
— Elizabeth Olsen

This sounds like Olsen will be making future appearances. However, Olsen also stated that, due to spoilers for Doctor Strange, she's not sure what the future looks like and didn't want to confirm anything:

I don’t know in what capacity I’ll be back. I don’t know how to do it without, I don’t want spoilers.
— Elizabeth Olsen

Olsen also has high hopes for Wanda Maximoff and wants her to interact with Marvel's Merry Mutants in the future:

Someone just said, “Because you’re bringing in X-Men, Wanda’s a part of the X-Men franchise. Why can’t Wanda be there too?” In my mind I’m like, “Yeah. Why can’t Wanda be with the X-Men too?”
— Elizabeth Olsen

Olsen clearly still has a love for the character and it's certainly encouraging to see her thinking about her future portraying Scarlet Witch. However, the concept of a contract extension means that nothing is guaranteed, so confirmation on whether or not we will see Olsen reprising the role in upcoming projects remains to be seen. There do appear to be a few unfinished storylines for the character, such as the introduction of White Vision, who is heavily connected to Wanda. We expect Olsen and Marvel will be eager to explore that space, after Olsen’s assertion that Wanda needs a “strong” storyline:

There’s no reason to continue to tell these stories unless they’re really strong, good stories, and that they’re adding something to the entirety of the MCU. I will be there if there’s a great idea.
— Elizabeth Olsen

The interview with Collider also touches on spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as well as how the reshoots on the film were done without her being present and not meeting some of her new co-stars.

One thing is for sure, though: the Marvel train does not seem to be slowing down, and Kevin Feige seems keener than ever to introduce new characters with exciting new stars playing them. Since Olsen is keen on the idea of Scarlet Witch interacting with some forthcoming version of the X-Men, it might be too tantalizing a prospect for Kevin Feige to pass up.
