Documentary Of Infamous 1978 'Star Wars Holiday Special' Sets Release Date

Fans of Star Wars will soon get to see a behind-the-scenes comical documentary about the much-maligned 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. The documentary 'A Disturbance in the Force’ premiered at the SXSW Film Festival and will be released on digital and Blu-Ray on December 5th. The documentary will also be shown in select theaters in the US, UK, and Australia.

The documentary will showcase the making of the Star Wars Holiday Special that aired 45 years ago. Star Wars was originally released in 1977. Following the success of the film George Lucas was convinced to produce a holiday special. Over thirteen million turned in two CBS the week of Thanksgiving to watch the special but it turned out to be very poorly regarded and it was never to be seen again.

In a review in Variety, Joe Leydon indicated that the film is amusing and exhaustive and you do not need to be a Star Wars die-hard to enjoy the content.

Giant Pictures is in charge of digital and Blu-ray distribution and Adam F. Golberg serves as executive producer.
