Disney Announces Premiere Date For 'National Treasure' Sequel Series During D23
National Treasure and National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets followed Benjamin Gates (Nicholas Cage), a treasure hunter trying to go after the treasure his family had been looking for for years. He steals the Declaration of Independence in the first movie and kidnaps the President in the second. Recently, it was announced that a third movie could be in the works but it is still a ways off. Disney announced a National Treasure series called National Treasure: Edge of History at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022. At D23, a release date was officially announced. The show will premiere Wednesday, December 14, with two episodes.
National Treasure: Edge of History follows DREAMer Jess (Lisette Alexis) who embarks on an adventure of a lifetime to uncover her family’s mysterious past. While doing this, she also must try and save a lost Pan-American treasure. The show will be a sequel to the movies, and similar, except with a younger cast. Executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer returns. Justin Bartha will reprise his role as Riley Poole and Harvey Keitel will reprise his role as Peter Sadusky in the show.
The series will also star Catherine Zeta-Jones as a black market antiquities expert and treasure hunter. Zuri Reed (Flatbush Misdemeanors) will play Tasha, Jess’s best friend, and join her treasure hunt where she is forced to reevaluate her beliefs. Antonio Cipriano (Broadway’s Jagged Little Pill) plays Oren, a self-obsessed but loveable goofball, who has way too much knowledge of conspiracy theories to attempt to win back Tasha’s affection. Jordan Rodrigues (The Fosters) plays Ethan, Jess’s best friend from childhood, who also happens to have loved her since the day they met. Jake Austin Walker (DC’s Stargirl) plays Liam, a good-looking, struggling musician from a long line of treasure hunters. Lyndon Smith (Parenthood) plays FBI Agent Ross, an investigator who realizes there is a greater conspiracy.
National Treasure: Edge of History will premiere with two episodes on Wednesday, December 14, on Disney+.
