Discovery+ And Netflix Are Increasing Their Pricing
2023 has seen several streaming platforms make changes to their platforms. From content removal to price hikes, these changes have been very noticeable in the user experience. Some familiar names are jumping back in the mix: Warner Bros. Discovery is making a change to Discovery+, and Netflix may not be too far behind.
Starting October 3, the ad-free tier for Discovery+ has gone from $6.99 to $8.99 with current subscribers seeing this price change reflected on their next billing cycle in November. Discovery+ has a range of content, the genres spanning from lifestyle content to food to true crime and so many in between. While the platform’s parent company merged and brought some Discovery-exclusive content to Max, a lot of content is still only available through Discovery+ and attracts subscribers.

The future of Netflix’s tier prices is a bit more cloudy. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the company is considering raising its prices for ad-free tiers once the SAG-AFTRA strike concludes; no specific source was cited beyond an anonymous identity. According to Variety, Netflix did not comment on the validity of this report. This wouldn’t be the first time lately that Netflix has been in the news for their tier subscriptions. The company axed its Basic tier without ads this past summer, pushing customers towards the Standard with ads subscription option for $6.99 per month.
