Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) was the first Star Wars anthology film to come out. It was a smash hit at the box office and critically well-received. Considered by many to be one of the best of the Disney era. This era of Star Wars will be getting an expansion with the upcoming Andor series coming to Disney Plus. Said to take place five years before the events of the movie, it will detail the life of Cassian Andor from civilian to Rebel. With showrunner Tony Gilroy, a writer on Rogue One, returning to helm this adventure, as well as actor Diego Luna to reprise his role as the Rebel Spy, it will be the first spy thriller for Star Wars. Not only that, but it will also have political intrigue as we also see what was going on with the formation of the Rebel Alliance by following Senator turned Rebel leader Mon Mothma.

Andor is going to be a two-season series with 12 episodes each. It seems to be one of the more ambitious stories that will detail some of the more political aspects of the Star Wars universe. With moments in the Senate, Coruscant will probably be the most detailed viewing of the rise of the Rebel Alliance we have seen in the dark times era of Star Wars.

RELATED:

In the trailer, we see a monologue of Andor himself as he sees the rise of the Empire coming to his home planet. Name of which is still unknown. At the start of the trailer, we see a Star Destroyer floating overhead. Throughout the trailer, we see the various politics going on both on Andor’s planet and the Imperial Senate on Coruscant. Mon Mothma takes center stage in these moments, pretending to be a nuisance while she sows the seeds of a broader rebellion. The trailer also shows the Empire and its oppression of planets on a day-to-day scale, with one scene even showing a riot held back by Imperial Security.

Also returning to Andor is the one and only Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrea, who made his debut in The Clone Wars but jumped from instant fame in Rogue One. It shows the connection between the film and the series as we continue to expand the universe with the foundations of the anthology series as its basis. Finally, this show will be one of rebellion, revolution, and what it means to fight against an unjust system and oppression that is the Galactic Empire.

Andor will be coming to Disney Plus on September 21st, with the first three episodes premiering. Another excellent addition to the vast tapestry of storytelling in that galaxy far, far away.
