After spending years in front of the camera, Academy Award-nominated actor Dev Patel is making his directorial debut with the action-thriller ‘Monkey Man.’

‘Monkey Man’ follows the story of Kid, also played by Patel, as he “discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city’s sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.” according to the film’s logline.

The very first trailer for the film dropped this Friday, showcasing plenty of brutal action and bloody violence that would feel right at home in any of Chad Stahleski’s action films, giving Patel the opportunity to flex his martial arts background. On top of that, Kid is shown throughout the trailer wearing a monkey mask, drawing inspiration from the Hindu god Hanuman.

Joining Patel in the production of ‘Monkey Man’ is none other than modern-day horror legend Jordan Peele, who is attached to the film as a producer. Writers Paul Angunawela and John Collee penned the screenplay alongside Patel.  While the film was initially slated for a release on Netflix, a deal between Monkeypaw and Universal Pictures has resulted in the film now being slated for a theatrical release.
