We live in a time when fans can join to make their voices heard to large companies such as the game developer Bungie, who created Destiny 2, which reportedly is cutting close to one hundred employees, almost eight percent of its staff. Bungie is owned by Sony and executives there are telling employees how “revenue was running 45% below projections for the year.” Fans are also up in arms regarding a delayed release date for Destiny 2. The initial release time frame was February 2024 to June 2024.

Pete Parsons, CEO of Bungie, held a meeting after the company announced the layoffs saying how he planned to retain “the right people” to finish the development of Destiny 2’s expansion, The Final Shape.

It is reported by IGN that the layoffs were an initial reaction to how Destiny 2 was performing in the marketplace along with apparent “lower-than-expected preorders” for the expansion.

Destiny 2 fans are clearly aggravated by the announced layoffs and are taking to Reddit to proclaim their grievances. One Reddit user by the handle of Eigenspace explained how they “bought a preorder pack expecting that the content would release on a certain day and meet a certain level of quality.” Another user wrote, “I have over 3000+ hours in Destiny, It’s my favorite game by far but this…This broke me…My heart goes out to every single person who lost their job.”
