In an unfortunate turn of events, Destiny 2 developer, Bungie, has added its name to the list of companies that have recently laid off several employees. It’s not quite clear how widespread the cuts are, they come right after several other companies, such as Naughty Dog, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Take-Two, Microsoft and Embracer have made cuts of their own.

Hopefully this isn’t a big indication that we’re about to have a major video game crash, but video games, especially big titles, are becoming more and more expensive to produce as the industry pushes itself further and further. The next Grand Theft Auto game, for example, is reportedly costing over two billion dollars to make, which would make it the most expensive entertainment product ever produced.

That’s obviously the extreme end of the spectrum, but as the games advance, the cost goes up, and the companies have to cut costs somewhere, and eventually, that place is employees.

It’s sad to hear, of course. These are people who have put their hearts and souls into making video games for us. We can only hope that things turn around for the industry, and people can start getting hired to make great games again.
