DEBUNKED: No, Gina Carano Has Not Been Asked To Apologize If She Wants Her Own Spin-Off Show

You have probably heard of We Got This Covered and seen much of their headlines on your newsfeed or in some of the groups you have been in. For some reason, their articles spread like wildfire, even though what they report often lacks validity. So what is one of their most recent reports, you may be asking? Well, this one pertains to The Mandalorian. Specifically, it pertains to Gina Carano, who has stirred controversy on Twitter by mocking the inclusion of gender pronouns via her use of "Beep/Bop/Boop" in her Twitter bio and shared anti-mask memes. Unsurprisingly, she has offended a lot of people.

Given all of this controversy, a fair number of fans of the show want her removed from Star Wars, even if it means doing a recast for the character of Cara Dune. We Got This Covered, knowing that many people want this, have reported that Disney has asked for Gina Carano to apologize for her online actions if she is to get her own spin-off. Given the recent Disney Investor Call announcements, such a spin-off could possible be Rangers of the New Republic. It is not mentioned in the report from We Got This Covered, which may have been written before the announcement, but that show has been announced to officially take place around the time of The Mandalorian. Given the developments for Cara Dune in season 2 that have led to her working for the New Republic again, one would probably expect that she would be a central cast member in this series. However, Gina Carano's name was nowhere within the announcement. If she were a part of the show, one would think that it would have been addressed.

Maybe it is possible that Carano has been asked to apologize, but there certainly has been no such thing as of late. It feels odd that Disney and Lucasfilm have not so much as acknowledged Carano's actions on Twitter, not even going so far as to say whether they disagree with Carano. One would expect that they would have asked her to apologize much earlier. However, since no such apology has come out, that brings into question whether or not she is being offered a spin-off at all. Even if Rangers of the New Republic were to feature Cara Dune, it is possible that the decision has been made to recast the character. Or perhaps the character will be omitted altogether. Maybe Carano has not been asked to apologize because it would appear to be too little too late, at this point.

Whether or not a decision is made to please everyone going forward remains to be seen. Sure, it can be frustrating to not know everything that is going on behind the scenes, but we will just have to wait and see what happens as things progress. One good thing about the title Rangers of the New Republic is that it does not include any specific names. This allows for some wiggle room, the possibility that it could follow characters who are even unfamiliar to us at the moment. Maybe Cara Dune's arc could simply serve to introduce us to the idea of those who work in the New Republic, and then the series could show us more of the people who fulfill duties for that government. There is time to sort all of this stuff out. Star Wars tries to please all audiences. It has certainly not always succeeded at that, but the presence of Gina Carano does complicate that mission, if fan reactions are anything to go by. Only time will tell what happens as the franchise moves forward.
