'Deadpool & Wolverine' Sets R-Rated, First-Day Ticket Sale Record
With approximately two months to go until the release of Deadpool and Wolverine, things are already looking promising for the latest movie in the Deadpool franchise in terms of ticket presales. Tickets went on sale this past Monday for the film, which is set to open on July 26, 2024, and some 200,000 fans have already bought tickets, the highest number for an R-rated film ever, according to AMC Theater CEO Adam Aron on his X.com account.
“Some 200,000 movie fans have bought their AMC tickets already. This is more Day 1 ticket sales at AMC than for any other R-rated movie ever.”

Online ticketing service Fandango also agreed with Aron’s assessment, reporting brisk ticket sales for an R-rated film. Although neither AMC nor Fandango has provided exact numbers, industry insiders have estimated that ticket sales have brought in around $8-9 million since tickets went on sale, a positive development for the movie theater industry whose performance Aron previously bemoaned. The film is expected to debut around $100 million, surpassing every other movie released in 2024.
Deadpool and Wolverine seems to be maintaining the popularity of the first two films in the franchise, with Deadpool (2016) and Deadpool 2 (2018), both R-rated films, earning over $100 million each. Deadpool and Wolverine also has the distinction of being the first R-rated film released by Marvel and Disney.
